Baby (originally titled Someone Else's Baby) is a song by Clean Bandit featuring Marina Diamandis and Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It appears on Clean Bandit's sophomore album, What Is Love?, as well as on Marina's fourth album, LOVE + FEAR, as the 4th track.
The song was written by Jack Patterson, Camille Purcell, Jason Evigan, Marina Diamandis, Matthew Knott and Luis Fonsi. It was produced by Jack Patterson, Grace Chatto and Mark Ralph.
'Baby' is a 'LOVE' track. The emoji used to promote Baby is a butterfly 🦋.
Background[]
Marina first collaborated with Clean Bandit in 2017 with the release of Disconnect.
Lyrics from Baby were included in Marina's Heals Spaces exhibition in September 2018.[1]
Clean Bandit announced on September 26th, 2018 via Twitter that they had a new song with an artist they have collaborated with before. Time after, they announced their new album What Is Love? and posted a clip with Baby's instrumental.[2] In early October, Clean Bandit and Marina both teased lyrics from the song via Twitter[3][4][5] and Instagram and behind the scenes of Baby.[6] Finally, they announced the official release date of the single on October 30th, 2018.
In November, Marina tweeted lyrics[7] and an acoustic version was released on the 16th of November with a music video.[8]
A concept demo featuring Juan Magán and J Balvin was leaked on November 14th, 2020. This demo features slightly different vocals from Marina and different mixing in some parts. It was originally thought to only feature J Balvin, but in fact reuses Magán's verse and Balvin's adlibs from Bum Bum Tam Tam.[9] It is likely that Clean Bandit was testing a rap feature on the song before finalising Fonsi’s vocals.

I didn’t know what I was writing it for, I just knew I wanted to do another session with Jack as we hadn’t since we had met and written [2017 single] 'Disconnect'. And I love it. I’m very happy it’s on my album. It’s lovely and jubilant—it’s just a beautiful love song. I’m very open to collaborations now, but for some reason people don’t really approach me [laughs]. We reached out to several people for this album, actually but they all said no! [more laughter] ❞
