Blue is a single by Marina Diamandis, released under her previous stage name 'Marina and the Diamonds'. Appearing on her third studio album, FROOT, it is the 4th track on the album, and was released as the 5th single.
The song was written by Marina alone, and produced by David Kosten.
Blue was represented by a blueberry
alongside Immortal on Marina's website during the era.[1]
Background[]
Described by Marina as both '70s inspired and "the most pop-sounding" on the album, Blue was the first song she recorded for the album.[2]
In a 2014 interview with Line of Best Fit, Marina explained why she did not want to release Blue as the lead single, despite it's sound:[3]
❝ Lead tracks are funny. Whatever you lead with, it's going to put out a message to everybody watching and who's a fan as to how you're going to progress. If I'd come out with "Blue", probably my biggest sounding song, it would be like "oh, okay, this a huge pop campaign, let's do the whole Top 40 route" and I'm just not here for that anymore.
If it happens, it's fantastic, and I still consider myself part of that world, but I don't want to have to adhere to or rely on that anymore. It's completely tiring; artistically it's fucking draining. ❞

- For unknown reasons, on the vinyl,[4] Blue is paired with Solitaire, contradicting the 'Froot of the Month' campaign.

Background
Marina told Fuse:[8]
The original choreographer pulled out of the music video last minute, meaning changes were made to the original choreography.[9]❝ Blue's video was filmed at the UK's oldest pleasure park. It's an incredible theme park, very traditional. I just wanted to film myself lolling around, having a tragically great time on rollercoasters. My dream car, actually, is a Japanese car called Figaro, so it was very much an aesthetically driven video, it didn't really have a narrative. ❞
