Demons and Angels is an unreleased song by Marina Diamandis, intended for her fourth studio album, LOVE + FEAR.
Background[]
The metadata of the original file reveals the song was encoded in Logic Pro X 10.2.4.[3] Assuming the software was up to date, this would mean the track was recorded sometime between June 2016 and January 2017.[4]
The piano demo was encoded with Logic Pro X 10.3.2,[5] which was available between July 2017 and January 2018.[6]
On May 9, 2018, the second version of Demons and Angels was exported.[7]
In 2019, Marina described being "almost certain" that she was going to give You and Karma to other artists, and it wasn't until stripping them down to piano tracks and subsequently getting them re-produced after her break, that she "fell back in love" with them.[8]
This explains why there are two studio versions of Demons and Angels, and a piano rework. It may also indicate that this song was a serious contender for the album's original tracklist.
Speculation[]
When the studio versions of the songs leaked, the earlier version was reportedly produced by Noah Breakfast,[9][unreliable source] and the 2018 version by Tim Anderson.[10][unreliable source]
In April 2017, a blog listed various producers that Marina was reportedly working with,[11] whilst Noah appears on that list, so do a few other producers that are not attributed to any other tracks.
