Metadata of the original leaked file[2] reveals that the track was encoded in Logic Pro 9.1.3, meaning the song was recorded approximately between November 2010 and May 2011.[3] However, Double Life is likely to have been created in 2011, as Marina was heavily touring through November into December 2010, and the song was presumably intended for Electra Heart, not die Life.
On March 16, 2011, Marina tweeted:[4]
❝ Sometimes i just go 'marina, why dont you just accept now that your ambition is way stronger than your self respect + integrity'. Sometimes i think 'i have so many people in my head, i'm getting confused which one's me & which one's are just extras in my dramatic life'. ❞
As Double Life has not been registered, any additional writers of the song remain unknown. However, the file uses the same encoder, bitrate and DAW as Greg Kurstin's other song files from the time, leading to the belief that he produced the track.[5]
