The song was written by Marina alone, and produced by James Flannigan.
Background[]
The song's existence was officially revealed on April 14, 2021, when Marina announced the album and its tracklist.[1]
The song was leaked early on June 6, along with the rest of the album due to CDs being sold early in various stores.
Marina revealed she cried while writing the song, and could not record a demo properly.[2]
Meaning[]
When asked what inspired the song, Diamandis said:[3]
❝ Well, apart from being a song about the end of a relationship, it's also about saying goodbye to versions of yourself, or to certain parts of yourself. I really feel like a new woman. I'm 35, and it's cool to still continue to evolve and grow and feel those big shifts. [...] Sometimes I'm like, 'when will I just stay still and be happy?' [laughs] It always feels like I am shedding things and parts of myself that I've found really challenging. ❞
