Immortal is a promotional single by Marina Diamandis, released under her previous stage name 'Marina and the Diamonds'. Appearing on her third studio album, FROOT, it is the 12th and final track on the album, and was released promotionally as the 3rd 'FROOT of the Month'.
The song was written by Marina alone, and produced by David Kosten.
Immortal was represented by a blueberry in the 'FROOT of the Month' campaign, and paired alongside Blue on Marina's website during the era.[1]
Background[]
Marina was inspired to write the song after visiting a war memorial in Poland, after someone said to her:[2]
❝ It's not a very beautiful memorial, but it deserves to be visited to keep their memory alive. ❞
Prior to its release, the lyrics were uncovered on Marina's website due to a design flaw.[citation needed]
Trivia[]
- Due to unknown reasons, Immortal is paired with I'm a Ruin, and represented by a lemon () on vinyl,[3] contradicting the FROOT of the Month campaign.
- When compared to Are You Satisfied? by an interviewer Marina said:[4]
❝ They're not consciously related, but it's a good point. I guess both are talking about that need to feel fulfilled or live that kind of life that you would want to. It's hard. It's hard to be happy all the time - it's not natural - but that's what people want to be. ❞

Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
I wanna be immortal
Like a God in the sky
I wanna be a silk flower
Like I'm never gonna die
I wanna live forever
Forever in your heart
And we'll always be together
From the end to the start
[Pre-Chorus]
That's what we do it for, to reserve a place
It's just another part of the human race
That's what we do it for, to reserve a space
In history it's just part of the human race, race
[Chorus]
I'm forever chasing after time
But everybody dies, dies
If I could buy forever at a price
I would buy it twice, twice
But if the Earth ends in fire
And the seas are frozen in time
There'll be just one survivor
The memory that I was yours
And you were mine
Everybody dies, dies
Chasing after time, time
[Verse 2]
When you love somebody
They'll always leave too soon
But a memory, a memory
Can make a flower bloom
We wanna be remembered
Don't wanna live in vain
But nothin' lasts forever
This world is in a losing game
[Pre-Chorus]
I wanna mean something to somebody else
Feel a significance in the real world
It's not enough to live out a lucky life
[Chorus]
I'm forever chasing after time
But everybody dies, dies
If I could buy forever at a price
I would buy it twice, twice
But if the Earth ends in fire
And the seas are frozen in time
There'll be just one survivor
The memory that I was yours
And you were mine
Everybody dies, dies
Chasing after time, time
[Middle 8]
No, I don't wanna be afraid
Afraid to die, die, die
I just wanna be able to say
That I have lived my life, life
Oh, all the things that humans do
To leave behind a little proof
But the only thing that doesn't die is love, love, love
(Love, love)
[Chorus]
I'm forever chasing after time
But everybody dies, dies
If I could buy forever at a price
I would buy it twice, twice
But if the Earth ends in fire
And the seas are frozen in time
There'll be just one survivor
The memories of our lifetime (Life)
Everybody dies, dies
Chasing after time, time
[Outro]
So keep me alive
So keep me alive
So keep me alive, alive
Race, race, race
