Jack Patterson is an English musician. He is a member of the electronic band Clean Bandit, alongside Luke Patterson, his brother, and Grace Chatto.

He was previously in a romantic relationship with Marina Diamandis from 2015 to 2020.

Life and career[]

Patterson met his band members while studying as undergraduates at Jesus College, University of Cambridge.[1] Their debut album, New Eyes, was released in 2014, followed by their sophomore album, What Is Love?, in 2018.

Relationship with Diamandis[]

Patterson first met Diamandis in 2015 while collaborating on Disconnect.[2] They began dating in 2016 and broke up sometime in 2020.

Diamandis stated that after writing Disconnect together, she made a decision not to collaborate with Patterson again, worried about her songwriting being influenced by their romance.[3] However, she eventually changed her mind.[4]

They later worked together on Baby and several other tracks from Diamandis' fourth studio album, LOVE + FEAR.

In February 2021, fans were made aware that Diamandis and Patterson had split by gossip tabloid 'The Sun'. [5] This was confirmed by Diamandis in her 2021 NYT article,[6] where she confirms they broke up during the pandemic. In early April 2020, the two were still together, as she said she was quarantining with "my boyfriend, Jack".[7] In late May,[8] and the beginning of July,[9] Marina and Jack were still both together in their London home. But noticeably by the end of July, Marina was in Greece with her family by herself,[10] before quarantining in St. Lucia for two weeks,[11] and moving to L.A. It is safe to assume that they were fully broken up by this time.

While fans are unaware of what happened between the two of them to cause a break-up, it has been speculated perhaps Patterson cheated due to the line in Pandora's Box "you damaged what we had, but for her, it's just another day". Marina stated in Vogue:[12]

All of those songs stemmed from a breakup. I was in a relationship for five and a half years. It was my longest relationship to date; I loved and still love the person dearly. I use songwriting as a way to work out how I feel about something because my brain covers up loads of stuff, and it takes me a while to sift through the layers of detritus to figure out what decision to make and how I actually felt about this. When you're in a relationship, there's a very normal tendency to cover your own feelings up in order to maintain the health of the relationship, but that doesn't work for anyone in the end. The truth is, the thing that holds people together is authenticity.

On December 9, 2022, Marina posted a video to YouTube Shorts with the caption "If you're looking for a sign ✨":[13]

I remember when I suffered from panic attacks for 5 years. Never connected it to the relationship I was in. The day it was over the panic attacks stopped. Haven't had one since. It's been 3 years☺️ The mind lies but the body doesn't.
