Orange Trees is a single by Marina Diamandis, released under her current stage name 'MARINA'. Appearing on her fourth studio album, LOVE + FEAR, it is the 3rd track on the album, and was released as the 3rd single. An acoustic version was released on LOVE + FEAR (Acoustic).
The song was written by Marina, Jacob Jerlström, Oscar Görres, and Erik Hassle, and produced by Görres.
Orange Trees is a 'LOVE' track. The emojis to promote Orange Trees were the tangerine and the deciduous tree: 🍊🌳.
Background[]
In May 2018 the song was written in Sweden,[1] with True, Believe in Love and Enjoy Your Life, at this point however, she thought the album was already done.[2]
In September, Marina used lyrics from the chorus in her Heals Spaces exhibition.[3]
On February 14, 2019, she shared a short snippet of the song on her Instagram story, along with the tracklist.[4]
On March 10, Marina tweeted she was filming a music video,[5] this was for Orange Trees.
Completed Website
On the 20th, a website went live where short previews of the music video would be unlocked when the album was pre-saved enough times on a respective continent. Once a continent's threshold was reached, an orange tree grew and a preview became available.[6] The following day the website was taken down upon completion of all six orange trees growing around the world. On the 22nd, the full music video officially became available on YouTube as a result.
On April 4, Orange Trees was rereleased digitally with the other LOVE tracks. Marina explained why on social media:[7]
❝ I created "LOVE + FEAR" as 2 separate records to be listened to individually. I'm releasing "LOVE" today so you can listen to it in full before we move onto "FEAR". Enjoy it here! ❞

However, on the 26th, when LOVE + FEAR was released in full, the "LOVE" portion was no longer available to stream separately. At an unknown date, it was made available to stream again.[9]
On the 27th, to promote the album release, Marina performed Orange Trees live on BBC Radio 2.[10]
On September 13, an acoustic version was released on LOVE + FEAR's acoustic EP.

Marina said about the song:[11]
❝ It’s easy listening. I love it so much. I’m actually kind of addicted to it. I wrote it with a Swedish artist called Erik Hassle, which I really enjoyed. I haven’t always enjoyed that process in the past because I was always so nervous about songwriting with other people and it was such a solitary pursuit. But that fear has gone now. ❞

❝ I felt so deeply depressed and so lost for a good two years that I tried everything to get out of it. [..] Songs like 'Orange Trees' and 'Enjoy Your Life,' they were just desperate attempts to create happiness in my life because I didn't have it. ❞
