This article is about the song. To see alternate articles, check out the archetype with the same name.

Su-Barbie-A is an interlude by Marina Diamandis, released under her previous stage name 'Marina and the Diamonds'.

The song was written and created by Marina, but uses the original instrumental of Valley of the Dolls.

Su-Barbie-A was used as Part 5 of 'The Archetypes', and is a 'Housewife' song.

Background[]

In a June 2012, Marina explained the background behind the interludes:[2]

If I'm honest I'm not really sure what they are, or why I do them. [laughs] But I do them and I like doing them, and they say something else that the record doesn't. So that's the aim of those clips. There will probably be like five of those, and fifteen parts in total. I don't know, I just really enjoy doing them. [What do they say that the album doesn't say?] Well I think they focus on the two themes a little bit more, which is identity, which is what the archetypes is focusing on. And I suppose explaining why I have an attraction to the visual side of the things and why it's really important.

Two months prior, Marina said there there would be more of the "home made" videos, as "that's what builds up the bulk of the message, and the whole vision, because sometimes I'm just crap at saying what I mean. So it’s much easier for me to do it in the form of a photograph or a video."[3] It can be assumed the other three mini-videos we didn't get would be for the missing archetypes, Homewrecker, Teen Idle and Primadonna.

Samples[]

The audio samples the track "Please" by Jon Bergeron's early 2000s Tara the Android project which later became a viral YouTube video from 2009 under the title of "I Feel Fantastic"and one of the most iconic videos in the Creepypasta culture. The audio also uses snippets from doll commercials (mostly because the name of the video is Su-BARBIE-A), and clips from The Stepford Wives (1975) to tie into the housewife theme.

Lyrics[]

Who are those great-looking dolls?
It's quick curl-Barbie and mod-hair Ken!
But what do I do with my old Barbie?

S-U-B-A-R-B-I-E-A, S-U-B-A-R-B-I-E-A
Yeah, Su-Barbie-A

If you're going to tell me you don't like this dress
I'm sticking my head right in the oven
Oh, honey!

I feel fantastic, hey hey hey

The fact, it is: You, being the artist that you are, being the age that you are
Having the body that you have
Having the face shape that you have
This really does work for you!

Now, you are not, uh
Being the real adult in this
Not with this hair, and not with this dress!
Honestly, I feel like I'm celebrating
(Barbie) and I love

Girl, be honest is there any possible way you could think for a second about what somebody else might think of this?

Doll, ha ha ha
I love your wives, They're so, uh
Fuzzy fuzzy cute cute!
Barbie's changed, Barbie's new and different!
The Stepfords!
I don't like tea, I like gin
I mean even if they don't like me, they all know me

Be who you wanna be, girl
B-A-R-B-I-E
Tanner wants a treat!
So cute! Oh excuse us!
You potty trained Tanner, Barbie!
Barbie girl
