Superstar is a single by Marina Diamandis, released under her current stage name 'MARINA'. Appearing on her fourth studio album, LOVE + FEAR, it is the 2nd track on the album, and was released as the 2nd single. An acoustic version was released on LOVE + FEAR (Acoustic).
The song was written by Marina and the three members of Captain Cuts, and produced by Captain Cuts with Sam de Jong.

Background[]
On January 5, 2018, the demo of Superstar, produced by Captain Cuts, was exported.[1]
On April 11, 2018, Marina revealed the existence of the song on social media, calling it "a love song".[2]
On October 16, she posted a lyric from the verse.[3]
On February 21, 2019, the length of the track was revealed on iTunes, ahead of the album's release.[4] On the 25th, Marina posted a snippet of the song and announced that it would be released on Friday, March 1. Marina released the cover art through her mailing list.
On April 4, Superstar was rereleased digitally with the other LOVE tracks. Marina explained why on social media:[5]
❝ I created "LOVE + FEAR" as 2 separate records to be listened to individually. I'm releasing "LOVE" today so you can listen to it in full before we move onto "FEAR". Enjoy it here! ❞
Additionally sharing a quote from Elisabeth Kübler-Ross:[6]

However, on the 26th, when LOVE + FEAR was released in full, the "LOVE" portion was no longer available to stream separately.
On September 13, an acoustic version was released on LOVE + FEAR's acoustic EP, with a music video premiering the next day. At an unknown date, it was made available to stream again.[7]
Meaning[]
In her track-by-track interview for Apple Music, Marina said:[8]
❝ I spoke with every producer specifically about wanting to have space on this record, because my past work hasn’t had a lot. I think also when your mind is clearer you write more sparse, simple songs. I also really like how the song celebrates the hard work that goes into a good relationship. ❞
She told Nylon:[9]
❝ "I like the idea of writing a song about how someone is the light in your life," she says. "I know that sounds kind of cringe-y"—she laughs—"but that's what I wrote it about, you know? It's a love story. I was just kind of meditating on the progress of the relationship but also myself and how I viewed love. [Patterson] was really the first person who I felt completely at ease with, and that's very, very hard to find." ❞
